I’m not better off dead. STOP saying children born to disadvantaged, young mothers will be inevitably exposed to abuse, addiction and poverty; therefore they’re better off dead. As if death is merciful?! I’m not just another statistic and my life holds value despite the circumstances of my conception. . . I’m not supposed to be here. . . My Mother was 15 years old and living in a foster care group home when she found out she was pregnant. She did not plan for parenthood and fully intended to abort me until she arrived at the clinic. She changed her mind when a woman protesting outside of the building scared the hell out of her ‚ literally. She bravely chose life that day. I’m thankful I was granted the right to live! . . According to New York States Abortion Law my son shouldn’t be here either. NY passed legislation allowing abortions after 24 weeks if the mother's health is at risk. . . Four weeks.
Twenty-eight days.
Six hundred and fifty-two hours. These numbers represent the amount of time I spent on strict bed rest leading up to a failed induction and an emergency C-section that potentially saved my life. . . I’ll never forget the words my doctor said “It’s become too dangerous for you to remain pregnant.” At 32 weeks my blood pressure was stroke level for hours at a time and my doctor decided inducing labor was our best option. Delivery was the cure for my condition, not termination. . . My life was spared with a lie. The woman outside of the clinic shouted “God will never forgive a murderer, and if you kill your baby you’re automatically going to hell.” This is false! There is nothing that can keep you from God’s love. No darkness that his light can’t drown out. No pit so deep his mercy can’t reach down. God’s love can cover a multitude of sin. 🎉 Happy 1st Birthday Speer & Arrows! I can’t believe it’s been a year since I decided to pursue this audacious dream and launch WWW.SPEERANDARROWS.COM! . . It’s been a year full of risk taking, stepping out (scared) in radical obedience and leaning into my inability to do all the things. What a bittersweet thing! . Through my weaknesses I’ve been able to point people to Christ. By embracing my own testimony I’ve watched shackles break off and lives changed. By discussing my wounds I’ve given others permission to seek the healer. Through the trails and transitions my life has encountered I’ve been given the astonishing ability to affirm His faithfulness; even in the midst of difficulty. He is good friend. SO GOOD! 🙌🏻 . I went from a teeny tiny private Instagram account to growing 1,300 + genuine relationships. That’s not including the thousands of readers my guest features have touched through multiple ministries and podcast listeners reached. Despite my horrible stage fright, I’m not stoping there! I’m ready to amplify the message I’ve been given and bring it to women in person, face to face! That might seem braggadocious but I ain’t scared to give God ALL the credit. . He did that! Not me. I’m just a willing vessel. . I know that’s peanuts to some but here’s how I visualize it... I can’t fit 1,300 + people in my home! Although, if I could I totally would have you over for dinner! (If you’re ever in OKC holler at me and we’ll make it happen.) The point is, every single one of you is loved and valued! I’m not here for followers. Jesus left the 99 for the 1 lost sheep. That’s who I write for, an audience of one. I’m writing to you for you friend. . . I’m here following the only one worthy of imitation and I’m just so honored you’re following me as I follow HIM! . I’m not sure what brought you to Speer & Arrows or why our paths have crossed but what I do know is this, I hope you find a safe place to land here. Here’s to many years of FREEDOM FOR ALL MOMKIND!
You can’t love others until you love yourself. You can’t give from an empty cup... This message is all over the Internet but is it true? What does the Bible say? In 2 Timothy 3:1-5, we read that in the last days people will be “lovers of self . . . rather than lovers of God.” Ouch. I don't like the sound of that. I'm stepping on my own toes here. Hello, conviction! Am I right?! Wait, hold up Cass! Doesn't the Bible say " We are perfectly and wonderfully made?!" You're right! It does state that. Now let's take a look at the entirety of that scripture. "I will praise You, because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, and I know [this] very well." Psalm 139:14,CSB We praise God because He made us. His works are good. When we fix our eyes solely on loving what we see in the mirror we fail to acknowledge the one who formed us. If we don't accept and acknowledge the love of God we cannot hope to love ourselves or others well. Our self worth cannot be founded upon own worthiness! That isn’t a sustainable love. We were made in GOD’S IMAGE. Let that sink in. Isn’t that incredible?! No wonder the enemy makes it so dang hard to love the skin we're in. To love ourselves rightly requires loving the one in whose image we were made to reflect first. Not the person staring back at me in the mirror. The battle is continuous but the love of God already conquered the gates of hell to win my heart. It’s an intentional, daily choice to believe God’s thoughts over my own. I am who he says I am. I’m forgiven. I’m not my past. I’m not my flaws. His love defeated my guilt and shame. His love rescued me from myself. He did it for me and I know He'll do it for you too if you'll let him. Our identity, validation and worth must be found in Christ alone. Nothing else can truly fill your cup and when He fills your cup it runneth over! Psalm23:5 I want to know your thoughts! For when you’re stuck between the rock and a hard place... 365 Days ago we were living in uncertainty. Our son was in the NICU and our girls were seeing Daddy once every two weeks for less than 48hrs, months at a time. To say it was challenging is an understatement! Our home in Texas was still on the market with no end in sight. . . We had no idea when this mountain of uncertainty would be moved. . . We didn’t understand why God was calling our family to Oklahoma or when we would all be together again. Sure, we had hard days. There was frustration and doubt but there was also an overwhelming peace. A peace in trusting His plans are better than ours and a hope in believing His ways were higher than our own. . . Here we are a year later. Unified, healthy and thriving in OKC. Staring uncertainty in the face yet again but you know what? We’re not afraid. Not anymore. We continue to cling to the rock that is higher than us. Seasons change but God remains the same. I don’t believe that life gets less difficult simply because we’re believers. I do however know from experience that as we walk through the hard things, We are pressured in every way but not crushed; we are perplexed but not in despair; we are persecuted but not abandoned; we are struck down but not destroyed. 2 Corinthians 4:8-12, CSB If you’re between the rock and a hard place right now just know you’re in good company! Cling to the rock, even in the hard places friend. A lot can change in a year!
The post that started it all. I can’t believe it’s been a year since my writing journey began... . I see you. To every woman who has felt their body failed them. To every woman who asks themselves why or searches the web for answers only to come away feeling empty handed. To every woman who has experienced the joy of life within them, no matter how briefly. To every woman who’s birth plan went out the window. To every woman who felt crippled by fear and uncertainty. To every woman who felt it was too soon. I see you. I am you. I want you to know that God sees you, too. . God sees your sorrow and hears your cries for help. He sees your silent tears rolling down your face as the monitors beep and ding. He wants you to know that He is with you. He is very familiar with the pain of watching your own child suffer. And He wants you to know that motherhood is not defined by your birth plan or the type of delivery you experienced. Motherhood isn’t defined by your high risk pregnancy or preterm labor. You became a mother the moment that pregnancy test read positive. The type of delivery you experienced doesn’t define your Motherhood. . . You are not a failure. . . Your body may feel broken right now and in some ways it is. The fall in the garden left us all in a shattered and hurting world but darling, you’re not damaged! . . You will heal and feel whole again. You’re going to gain your strength back day by day and you’re going to overcome the blame that whispers in your ear that somehow this is all your fault. I might not know you personally but I know your burden because I carry it too. . . Allow the Lord to shoulder the weight of the world you insist on carrying. Lay it down at his feet. It doesn’t belong to you. I know your heart aches every time you leave the NICU. You may feel alone right now but you’re not forgotten! I’m the first to admit I gravitate towards work to feel validated because I’m goal oriented. Who doesn’t like to see the fruit of their labor?! When I idolize my job I am taking my eyes off of Jesus. Do you ever find yourself comparing your life to strangers on the internet to gauge how you’re doing? Listen, I get it! Momming doesn’t exactly offer “likes” or engagement to measure our performance. If you’re squirming in your chair right now, this might be hitting close home! If that is you, I want to encourage you to ask yourself a question... Who is defining my motherhood, the world or the word? I’m here to tell you, Motherhood IS Kingdom Work! . . I’m honored to be sharing on the topic of WORK & MOTHERHOOD @sheisboldco !
